School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering

The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (SMME) came into existence on establishment of the COEP Technological University in the year 2022. The SMME comprises of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing & Industrial Management, Metallurgy & Materials Engineering as well as Robotics and AI, an interdisciplinary program started from academic year 2023-24. Currently, the school offers four Bachelor’s Degree programmes (BTech) and several specializations in Master’s Degree (MTech) as well as PhD programmes in different disciplines. Various academic programs under the school have been accredited by the National board of Accreditation (NBA). The SMME remains committed to high standards of engineering education through outstanding teaching, innovative curricula, state-of-the-art facilities and excellent research environment.

The SMME provides right ambience to nurture the innate talent and aptitude of the students for their all round development. Experiential and project based learning, internships and internship based semester-long projects are some of the salient features of imparting knowledge, skills and right attitude to the students. The students get ample opportunities to participate in numerous technical clubs dealing with Astronomy, Satellites, Aeronautics, Robotics, Automobiles, EVs, etc. In addition, there are ample opportunities for the students to develop and hone their co-curricular, extracurricular, entrepreneurial abilities.    

Our students undertake research work in several specializations geared towards enabling them to tackle challenging engineering problems relevant to the modern world. The faculty members of the school are involved in research and teaching in the areas of Advanced Materials, Computational Mechanics & Fluid Dynamics, Thermal Engineering & HVAC, Energy Engineering, NVH, Vibration and Acoustics, Composite Design and Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing, CAD/CAM/CAE, Micromachining, Robotics, ML & AI, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Development of Digital Twin, Bio-mechanics, Structural Health & Condition Monitoring, Farm Mechanization, etc. The SMME actively involved in collaborative research with industries, R & D organizations.

Students from basic education to higher education are confronted with multiple complex challenges that affect them which include but not limited to adopting to new environment, different learning and teaching methods, slightly extreme workload, and academic expectations, etc., In their transformative journey the SMME faculty provides the students much needed counseling and mentorship. The students get extended support for their professional journey in industry or higher education in India and abroad forming a strong bond that transcends beyond the boundaries of the institute.
