Mathematics is the backbone of all engineering sciences; hence a lot of stress is given to Mathematics in engineering education. The Department of Mathematics was established in 1960. The department is situated on the south campus of the institute on the ground floor of Electrical Engineering Department. To cater to the needs of different engineering branches, we have a young and enthusiastic team of 6 faculty members. Engineering Mathematics is taught to all B. Tech. programs as well as to M. Tech. programs. Research on various aspects of Graph theory, Matroid theory, Lattice theory, Commutative algebra, Coding theory and Fractional calculus etc. with pure and engineering applications is carried out by the faculty. Our vision is to develop the department as a research center for pure and applied mathematics with applications to engineering.
